Environmental Targets, Performance, and Evaluation

The Tamura Group is working on environmental protection under its three group-wide targets of “increasing in percentage sales of eco-design products,” “reducing of substances with environmental load,” and “reducing power consumption.”

Tamura Group Environmental Targets, Performance, and Evaluation

The Tamura Group has taken the initiative in environmental protection by setting three common targets: “increasing the percentage sales of eco-design products,” “reducing substances of concern,” and “reducing power consumption,” which are the main measures specified in its environmental policy.
In FY2019, the target of “reducing power consumption” was attained, whereas “increasing the percentage sales of eco-design products” and “reducing substances of concern” were slightly below their respective targets. Efforts to improve the management & processes and review works related to environmentally hazardous substances that we are currently addressing will be continued.

Long-term reduction target for greenhouse effect gas emission
With the aim of contributing to the realization of a carbon-free society and using electric power consumption as the index in consideration of changes in the CO emissions factor, the Tamura Group has been working since FY2013 to reach the target of 15% reduction in FY 2020 relative to the FY2005 level, and was able to attain the target in FY2019, a year ahead of schedule.
Because of this, a new target has been set on the basis of SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) and a new social paradigm introduced by the Paris Agreement, etc.
The first goal is to reduce greenhouse gases by FY2030 by 21% or more compared with FY2013 levels in accordance with the “less than 2°C” target of the Paris Agreement. The second goal is to more than double the amount of renewable energy introduced by FY2030 compared with FY2019 level, aiming at promoting the introduction of renewable energy.
For the realization of continuous growth and a sustainable society, the Tamura Group shall continue working on resolving social issues specified by SDGs, thereby contributing to a decarbonized society.

Target for greenhouse gas emissions*:
FY2030: Reduction of 21% or more (compared with FY2013 levels)
Target for amount of renewable energy introduced:
FY2030: More than double (compared with FY2019 level)

* Within Scope 1 (direct emissions from our own fuel use or production process) or Scope 2 (indirect emissions from the use of electricity or heat we purchased).
Emissions related to new plants are added to those of past fiscal years including the base year to appropriately evaluate reduction efforts made after the start of operation.
The emission factor is defined as the emission factor for electrical power purchased under contract (subject to change annually).

Summary of the Tamura Group's Environmental Performance
The Tamura Group has a quantitative grasp of environmental load generated through its business operations and is working to reduce environmental load in various aspects of its business activities through development of premier eco-design products as well as improvements in productivity and distribution efficiency.
